A church family who loves you

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Since this nurturing ministry began in January 2013, we have touched the lives over 262 people with our prayer shawls! If you know of someone who would benefit from being wrapped securely in God’s loving arms, please contact the church office or any of the Prayer Shawl Ministry members.  We will be happy to help you select a shawl and we also provide a gift bag and card for the recipient.

Pocket Prayer Shawls
For Christmas 2015, this ministry has been busy making a special gift for each member and friend of our church.

These little shawls, also known as pocket shawls or prayer cloths,
are created with the same attention, prayer, and love as the regular shawls and are blessed by the congregation. Since they are small enough to place in a pocket, purse, or even a helmet, they give the recipient the option of carrying feelings of comfort and closeness to God everywhere. They may also be given to a secondary person, such as a spouse or child. Knowing that at times we all need support and prayer, we have filled a basket with pocket shawls and have placed it on the table with bulletins, E-notes, etc. as you enter the Sanctuary. Please feel free to take one along with a prayer slip whenever you wish.

With love and blessings, The Prayer Shawl Ministry

Blessing of the Prayer Shawls March 2014

The women in this ministry pray for the recipient as they create the shawls. These shawls are made with the love of God to bring warmth and comfort to those who might need it the most!

Blessing of the Prayer Shawls June 2014

The Prayer Shawls are blessed during church services on the second Sunday of each month. Members of the congregation are invited to come forward to add their prayers by laying hands on the shawls as they are blessed.

In the fall of 2013, this ministry crocheted mini shawls in support of
Rob Houk's squadron during their deployment to Afghanistan.
In February 2014 the last package was mailed for a total 132 mini shawls,
along with an assortment of snacks. The mini shawls look similar to bookmarks and can be kept in a pocket, inside a helmet, etc, as a tangible reminder of God's presence. The packages brought Rob and his friends greetings from home,
reminding them of God's love and promise,
showing our support appreciation for their efforts, and wishing them all a safe journey home.

Prayer Shawls are
also appropriate
for joyous occasions,
such as graduations, weddings, and births.
