News in 2014

The Men's Group collected $510 for the See's Candy Fundraiser to send 28 one pound boxes of candy
to our overseas service personnel. This exceeded our goal of $400!

Those coins in the collection plate every Sunday add up!
We collected $672 for the year, and our annual donation to the Heifer Project
included two water buffaloes and many other animals!

Through your thoughtful donations to the Helping Hands Ministry,
this year we have assisted 61 persons in need of help!
So far this year, $4792.02 has been given in the way of food, rent, gas,
meals, car repairs, utility bills, tires and gift cards.
This worthwhile ministry is such a blessing to those in our community having more month than money. Thank you all for giving, and especially to Dorothy B. for her service!

Our Neighborhood Cookie Outreach (see photo right) was a big success!
We filled 40 bags with cookies and a holiday bread!  We walked around the neighborhood,
carrying cookie bags, knocking on doors and
singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Deck the Halls," and "Jingle Balls."
We also delivered cookie bags to four of our homebound members and friends.

For the Christmas holidays, our Helping Hands Ministry gave thirty gift cards to the Lighthouse Counseling and Family Resource Center and thirty gift cards to the Salt Mine. The gift cards were designated for single mothers and older adults.

As of November 2014, our Prayer Shawl Ministry has distributed more than 180 shawls, as they continue to reach out to friends and family members, near and far.

Silent Auction final results for the beautiful Around the World Quilt were announced at
the UMW Fall Food and Craft Fair on Saturday, November 22. 
Congratulations to Barbara S. for the winning bid!
All proceeds were donated to the church's general fund.

Thank you for your support of the CROP Walk on October 19th in Roseville.
Our church team, Alan, Gail, and Pastor Kevin, raised nearly $300! 
These funds go to fight hunger through
Church World Service and The Gathering Inn.

Big thanks to Gail and her crew for cooking the kick-off dinner for the men going into Folsom Prison, October 2-5th, for the Kairos Prison Ministry.

Our church baked over 100 dozen cookies for the Kairos Prison Ministry at Folsom Prison, October 2-5th!  We also contributed many paper hands and signed up on the prayer wheel.

On September 29th, Gail and her thirteen volunteers fed about 145 hungry and/or homeless people at the Fifth Monday Feeding in Roseville.

September 28, 2014 was our church's 125th Anniversary Celebration! We had a special service, including a message by Lincoln's Mayor and the dedication of our new cross and flame banner (see photo right). The service was followed by a group picture on the front steps. At the reception, we heard previous pastors/visitors reminisce about our church's long history.

Our eight week class on T.L.C. Depression Help started in September.

On September 7th, Barbara and her crew of volunteers fed 45 homeless people at the Gathering Inn. Thanks to all who volunteered for this mission ministry!

On Sunday August 10th, we commissioned Ray A. for his UMVIM mission trip to Galena, Alaska, a remote village on the Yukon River hit by a major flood in 2013.

The LUMC United Methodist Women presented David Hill, Lincoln High School Band Director, with a donation of $100.00.  The donation will be used towards supplies for the marching band.

Faye and Alta are retiring from the Used Stamp Project!
We will send their last box of used stamps to the Marion Mission in Indiana in July. With that box, this church has shipped over 100,000 stamps since 2007!! Proceeds from the sale of the stamps cover the shipping costs for cargo containers of donated goods going to Africa. Our thanks to everyone who has saved their stamps over the years. With such a small thing as a used stamp, together we made a difference! Thanks to Susie and Gunnar are taking over this project!

Gail and her crew did a fantastic job feeding 102 homeless and/or hungry people
for the 5th Monday Feeding in Roseville on Monday June 30th.

The UMW's Annual Church Yard and Vendor Sale on June 28th netted almost $1,000!

On May 25, Barbara and her crew of volunteers fed 51 homeless people at the Gathering Inn.

In May, the UMW sponsored a women's full-day mini retreat, Mary: Matriarch of Faith,
with Rev. Susan Kopp.

Jamie Campbell and her team raised over $5,500 for this year's Energy for Life Walk  in support of Mitochondrial Disease on April 12th!
 
***
In March, the Lincoln UMW sponsored a full-day workshop, Heartsongs: Later Life Planning
with Rev. Judith Pruess-Mellow and Jacqueline Finley on topics for seniors and their older loved ones.
This workshop was fully funded by a grant from the Beulah Foundation of the United Methodist Women.

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry sent a total 132 mini shawls to Rob Houk's squadron
during their deployment to Afghanistan.

During 2013 we raised $1,129 for the Heifer Project! The school children chose the following: Clean Water, Llama, two Hope Baskets, a Heifer, Honeybees, and 2 shares of a Water Buffalo! Thanks to all of you for putting those coins in the offering plate on Sundays!

For Operation Christmas Child we packed and shipped 53 shoe boxes for Christmas 2013! Wow!

Our church sent seven packages to the 190 men and women in Rob Houk's 427th Reconnaissance Squadron in Afghanistan for the 2013 Christmas holidays!
